Position Description

The Quality and Laboratory Support Practitioner (NP/PA), works under the direction of the Medical Director, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement. This role is responsible for the timely review and follow-up of outpatient test results, including initiating treatment when appropriate.

Key responsibilities also include supporting Quality, overseeing internal incident reporting, and identifying opportunities to improve patient care. The NP/PA collaborates with Lab RNs and both clinical and administrative teams to ensure care is well-coordinated and aligned with internal policies, regulatory standards, and best practices.

Salary

  • Qualified NP/PA hourly rate is $60/hour

Job Responsibilities

  • Review, interpret and treat actionable outpatient laboratory results across multiple states.
  • Monitor results queues of all sites and report any delays in reporting or patient care.
  • Call patients with results when indicated and send mail to patients in the event that the patient cannot be reached by phone.
  • Communicate abnormal or critical results to patients promptly.
  • Document all follow-up actions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Work within the team of RNs to ensure timely review and reporting of results to patients and treatment changes, when indicated.
  • Provide patient education and support to promote adherence to care plans.
  • Report communicable diseases to state departments of health.
  • Assist Quality Department with the incident reporting process, including intake, review, investigation, documentation, and resolution of clinical and operational incidents.
  • Maintain and audit records of incident reports and develop trend reports to identify areas of risk or improvement.
  • Monitor clinical practices to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and external regulations (OSHA, HIPAA, CDC, state/local health authorities).
  • Support the development, implementation, and evaluation of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Track and report on quality indicators, such as patient satisfaction, wait times, safety events, and medication errors.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in urgent care, emergency, or ambulatory care settings.
  • Prior experience with lab review and quality reporting is a plus.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory requirements, clinical workflows, and patient safety principles.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication abilities.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote healthcare environment..
  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.

Required License And Certification

  • Active and unrestricted NP or PA license in all of the following states: Indiana, Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.
  • Board certification (e.g., AANP, ANCC, or NCCPA).

Mental And Visual Requirements

  • Works in clean, smoke-free and well-lit spaces.
  • Exposure to frequent deadlines/ must have ability to handle stress effectively, subject to frequent interruptions
  • Must have good visual and hearing acuity.
  • Must be able to utilize keyboard and view computer screens up to 90% of shift.
  • Must be able to follow directions and plan fairly complex processes & workflow

Physical Activities And Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or bend, climb, talk, hear, and perform repetitive motions of hands and/or wrists.
  • Requires some physical work; lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 10 pounds.
